The celebration of light!

This week is Diwali, the biggest celebration in the Hindu calendar. Diwali tells the story of the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness.

This year, our 6-year old daughter took a keen interest in understanding more about Diwali and encouraging her friends to get involved. She put together an incredible kids activity book which you can download here and share with any children in your family!

Every year we celebrate by creating rangoli patterns from bright coloured powders, lighting candles, sparklers and fireworks, and of course copious amounts of delicious food.

As a kid, we were one of very few Indian families in our area. With no extended family in the UK, these celebrations were an important way of connecting to our culture.

Over the past few years, it's been wonderful to see so many people from all backgrounds and cultures, show such a huge interest in Diwali. As with other faiths, these festivals represent so much more than religion. It's about togetherness, gratitude, family; things we can all celebrate. And of course celebrating our differences is a way of bringing us ALL together.

Wishing you a wonderful Diwali. We hope the next year brings you peace and happiness.
